Havertown Music Therapy Serves People With Special Needs for 20 Years

By

A lifelong musician is making his dream come true through music therapy. MusicWorks in Havertown came to Jerry O’Leary in a dream, writes Tom Kretschmer for 6 ABC.

Once the vision came to O’Leary he got to work. “I got a master’s degree in a local college, started my own business, and gave myself a four-year window to study everything I can about music therapy,” O’Leary said.

The non-profit has been operating for 20 years. It provides services to people of all ages and treats people who are living with autism, ADHD, depression, and aging. Music helps give clients the social skills and routine they need to learn how to live with their disorders.

The goal is to find that miracle through the impact of music to help individuals come out of their shells.

“It may not come the first session or the second or for six months, but we work and work and we keep moving the needle and then the moment happens when it clicks and it’s a lot of fun,” said O’Leary.

MusicWorks has various programs for all age groups including schools and camps.
