Delaware County is still dealing with baseless election fraud lawsuits filed after the 2020 election, even as it preps for legal challenges in the 2022 General Election, writes Kenny Cooper for WHYY.
The county has been in and out of court fighting 15 lawsuits claiming fraud in its vote counting methods.
This despite a pristine 15-0 winning record against those legal challenges, according to county solicitor Bill Martin.
The county argued every challenge, from election recount litigation to lawsuits from President Donald Trump’s campaign.
It doesn’t come cheap. It’s costing Delaware County taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars for outside legal counsel.
Delaware County Councilmember Kevin Madden called the ongoing lawsuits a “drain” and “a theft of taxpayer resources” that “consumers the oxygen in the room” by wasting time and energy on lawsuits that have already been dismissed.
A small dispute about access to the election center was “Pretty readily resolved,” Martin said.
But then three people, including a defeated Republican candidate, made allegations of alleged fraud and errors in the election results processing.
The allegations were dismissed in court, reintroduced, and dismissed again. Now there is a third version the county is fighting.
