1,700 Challenges to Delaware County’s Provisional Ballots All Withdrawn, Except for 1

By

Only one of 1,700 challenges to Delaware County’s provisional ballots in the Nov. 3 election was upheld at a Friday hearing with the county’s Department of Voter Registration, the Delaware County Board of Elections and legal representatives from multiple parties, reports the digital staff at 6abc.com.

The filed challenges were almost exclusively filed by the Trump campaign, according to county officials.

There were 9,000 provisional ballots cast in the election.

Officials said the challenges looked to disqualify ballots based “predominantly on procedural errors made by Delaware County voters.” That could mean ballots unsigned, undated, unsealed or incomplete.

Delaware County officials said nearly every challenge was withdrawn after input from the Election Board, and clarification from the Department of Voter Registration of “often long-standing, legally sound, and universally-accepted processes used to review, approve and count provisional ballots.”

“Notably, no evidence of voter fraud among provisional ballots was alleged or discussed,” the county said.

According to Delaware County officials, a single challenge to a small number of ballots was upheld by the board. Those pertained to ballots where the voter did not sign the “Voter Affidavit” on the provisional ballot envelope.
