Radnor officials are thinking of buying a small property at 26 Wentworth Ave. in Garrett Hill to create a public parking lot, writes Richard Ilgenfritz for the Daily Times.

If approved, the parking lot could alleviate parking issues for a nearby business district along Conestoga Road.

Right now, most of the parking in that area is private, an inconvenience to patrons of restaurants and retail businesses in the Garrett Hill section.

The lot would accommodate 17 spaces.

Radnor would buy the property for $575,000, taken from the general fund, said Township Manager Bill White.

Radnor approached a developer about buying the property. He initially planned to build two semi-detached homes on the land.

The purchase plus construction of the parking lot brings total project costs to $843,000.

A September public meeting will take place on the proposed purchase of the property.  The public will have an opportunity at that time to comment on the parking lot proposal.

Work could begin some time next year if approvals are given.

Though Commissioner Maggy Myers supported the plan, she did note the project was “one expensive parking lot.”
