Starting next year, Upper Darby will modernize its parking operations by allowing drivers to pay for parking directly from their smartphones, reports wfmz.com.

The township has partnered with Passport Parking to manage mobile pay parking, parking enforcement and digital permitting.

The Passport app will be introduced in 2021 for use by drivers at over 1,200 parking spaces in the township.

The app provides a contactless payment option for drivers and lets them extend and manage their parking time from anywhere.

Users can also manage their parking online at passportparking.com.

Users can receive notifications when their parking session is about to expire, view receipts and see a parking history from their smartphones.

“We are excited to work with Passport to offer more payment flexibility for our parking public as we continue to modernize Upper Darby services,” said Mayor Barbarann Keffer.

For the township, the app will save on hardware and allow operations to be streamlined, said Sekela Coles, Upper Darby’s director of Parking Enforcement.

The hope is that the Passport Operating System will improve parking compliance, payment and accuracy.

The app will be available on the App Store and Google Play.
