New Lidl Store Is Just Part of Clifton Height’s Revitalization
The Lidl Food Market that officially opened Wednesday morning in Clifton Heights is part of a bigger revitalization happening in the borough, according to borough Mayor Mark J. Campbell.
The new store opened at the former Kmart property and sits next to the Big Lots at 713 East Baltimore Pike in Clifton Heights, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Times.
“We’re in the middle of a $30 million renovation from the town, and this was a big part,” Campbell said. “Every little piece adds to the improvements.”
Besides the new store, the borough revitalization includes a development being built on five acres of of property off Baltimore Pike. It will include restaurants and stores.
Old mills in the town are being turned into high-end apartments, he added.
Lidl invested $5 million into the new store, and is opening up 35 jobs I the borough with salaries starting at $17 an hour for all full- and part-time positions, regardless of hours worked.
Lidl opened in Germany in 1973. It has 11,500 stores in 32 countries. Its other Delaware County store is off MacDade Blvd. in Folsom.
