A racehorse’s nine-year career has earned over $2 million after winning a $22,500 handicap harness racing trot feature May 12 at Harrah’s Philadelphia in Chester, reports harnesslink.com.
The 13-year-old Melady’s Monet boosted its bankroll to $2,005,198 following the race.
Driver Tim Tetrick placed the Revenue S gelding in the lead early, but initially yielded to Wild And Crazy Guy after coming off of four previous straight victories at Yonkers.
It was when they turned for home that Tetrick was able to guide Melday’s Monet forward along the inside. For the 84th time in its career, Melady’s Monet won, by three-quarters of a length.
Owners Melady Enterprises LLC have enjoyed their run with Melady’s Monet since 2013. The horse has earned $100,000 or more for nine straight years running.
His trainer, Herman Heitmann, has a special talent working with horses who race seemingly forever. Heitmann has trained this horse since 2018.
He was also the horseman in 2008 who conditioned a four-year-old gelding named Foiled Again when he joined the Burke Brigade.
Harrah’s Philadelphia is home to one of the fastest 5/8-mile harness racing tracks in North America. It offers 130 live race days between April 3 and Dec. 24.
