Walkable suburbs and neighborhoods are currently all the rage in the real estate world as developers rush to add foot-friendly amenities to car-centric places.

Meanwhile Philadelphia region towns – including those in Delaware County – were built for strolling in the first place, according to the Philadelphia Magazine.

According to Walk Score, a real estate industry standard that measures the walkability of places based on the distance to amenities such as grocery stores, schools, parks, restaurants, and shops, Media and Wayne are two of the 14 most walkable Philadelphia suburbs.

Media received a high Walk Score of 94 thanks in part to State Street, the main shopping drag that runs the length of the borrow and is easy to get to from most of the town.

In addition to the many shops, residents have access to more than 50 restaurants. Media is also the first Fair Trade Certified community in the United States, which means that there are plenty of local and ethically sourced items available.

Meanwhile, Wayne has a Walk Score of 86. The town features many historic hotels, businesses, and houses, most of which are clustered close to its Victorian Regional Rail station.
