Media Borough still has a trolley running down its Main Street.  That may hearken back to a suburban past for many, but others see it as a suburban community yet to come, writes Sandy Smith for Philadelphia Magazine.

“Media harks back to traditional town planning principles, which means that housing emerged organically around the train station,” says Media native and former Fortune editor Leigh Gallagher.

That traditional town planning is attractive these days to homebuyers. They want walkable suburbs with access to public transportation.

That gives Media an advantage since those elements already exist in the borough.

Town and Country

You can find big homes minutes away in Upper and nether Providence. For nature enthusiasts, there’s nearby Ridley Creek State Park and Tyler Arboretum.

A restaurant renaissance on Main Street and development of the Media Performing Arts Center have fueled the borough’s downtown popularity, especially Dining Under the Stars, a weekly summertime shutdown of traffic for outside dining.

The average sales price of a home in Media Borough was $385,595 in 2020, but the borough has great options in all price ranges. In fact, 55 percent of residents are renters, above the national average.
