Vittles Food Hall officially opens in Chester Saturday and it’s the most ambitious project so far for the Black chef-led nonprofit, Everybody Eats Philly, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The sprawling eating establishment has Mexican food, Southern soul food, burgers, salads, and seafood., plus there’s a breakfast-lunch spot called Ray’s Diner.

The Vittles food hall provides low-cost food to people in underserved communities.  It’s also the home base for Everybody Eats Philly. The group plans to mentor, train and employ 20 local residents.

A community fridge lets locals take the food they need. Sharing Excess will make weekly deliveries of surplus fresh produce and prepared meals.

The Vittles food hall location at 801 Sproul Road lets the Everybody Eats Philly chefs store and prepare food for different events in and around Philadelphia.

Everybody Eats Philly is on a mission to increase food security, build community and nourish the hungry.

A place like Vittles “helps us be able to give communities access to healthy food that they deserve. That’s a basic human right. We believe that everyone should have access to this type of food,” said Everybody Eats director Kurt Evans.
