Mitch Macek, a mathematics major at Villanova University, went up against 34 other contestants this week on Jeopardy!’s National College Championship, writes Pat Ralph for Philly Voice.

The stakes are high. The grand prize winner can take home $250,000.

The quarterfinal round consists of 12 games over six days. Two quarterfinals will be shown each night this week from Tuesday through Friday, and again Feb. 15 and 16.

Macek, in quarterfinal four, competed Feb. 9, facing Brandeis University junior Joey Kornman and Northwestern University senior Yejun Kim.

Macek, who hails from Felton, Pa., told the York Daily Record that being on “Jeopardy!” was a lifelong dream.

“The moment you step on [the set] your nerves kind of dissipate because you have to focus on the game and you just kind of get lost in it,” Macek said. “I think my biggest regret is, you know, I wish I could play a million times. … Because playing the game was so much fun. I want to keep doing this over and over again.”

The competition was filmed in Los Angeles in November.

Macek did not advance to the semifinals. Quarterfinal winners advance to four semifinal games on Feb. 17-18. The final takes place Feb. 22.
