Looking for Unity, GOP Governor Candidate Drops Out, Endorses Dave White
Former Delaware County Councilman and businessman Dave White, now a Republican candidate for Pennsylvania governor, picked up an endorsement from a fellow Republican who has dropped out of the race, writes Matthew Rink for the Erie Times-News.
State Sen. Dan Laughlin of Erie said fundraising shortfalls ended his campaign for governor.
He had raised only $200,000 but needed $350,000 to $400,000 .
So instead, he’s decided to throw his support behind White.
“I believe we need to come together and focus on the future of the Commonwealth,” Laughlin said in a recent statement. “This candidate has the potential of bringing the necessary unity to the 2022 Election and I am giving him my full support.”
White, a 60-year-old third-generation steamfitter, founded DWD Mechanical Contractor Inc. in 2005 and worked several decades as a union pipefitter.
He served 18 years as a Ridley Township commissioner and six years on Delaware County Council.
White has invested $2 million of his own money into his campaign.
Laughlin said he and White share a common upbringing. They both grew up in lower-income households. White’s father was a steamfitter. Laughlin was a union carpenter.
