One of Delaware County’s newest state senators, John Kane (D-9), is happy to bring his working man viewpoint to the job, writes Kathleen E. Cary for the Daily Times.

The five-term business manager for Plumbers Union Local 690 now sits on five state Senate committees, including Consumer Protection & Professional Licensure, and Labor and Industry.

“I’ve always been involved in politics in Delaware County,” said the 60-year-old master plumber. “Being on this side of the aisle, it’s not what I expected.

“You get to Harrisburg and it’s, ‘Oh man, I’m the low man on the totem pole”.

His top priority is getting the COVID-19 vaccine out to frontline employees, the elderly, teachers health care workers and correctional officers.

He himself has not been offered the vaccine. “I want to make sure people get it before me who are more vulnerable,” Kane said.

He also sees job creation and raising the minimum wage to be important issues.

“I’m a working class guy,” he said. “You can’t get to the middle class unless you have a decent job.”

Kane’s district covers 20 Delaware County towns, as well as part of Chester County.
