A driver assist autopilot feature on a Tesla contributed to the safe delivery of a baby girl born to a Wayne couple back in September, writes Meghan Holohan for TODAY Parents.

Maeve Sherry was born Sept. 9 in the front seat of the Tesla en route to Paoli hospital.

The couple’s 3-year-old son, Rafa, was in the backseat.

Yiran Sherry, 33, thought they’d make it to the hospital in time to deliver her second baby, but there was rush hour traffic.

“I figured my responsibility as a husband was to get my wife to the hospital safely. That was the number one objective,” said Keating Sherry.

He intermittently drove and used the autopilot so he could comfort his wife, who was having intense contractions.

Keating said he was grateful for the autopilot during those tense moments.

“With the autopilot, I’m still very focused on the road,” he explained. “But it’s nice to have that reassurance as your heart rate is just through the roof and you’re trying to handle a pretty stressful situation as best you can.”

Maeve actually arrived as they pulled into Paoli Hospital, where doctors rushed her and mom inside.
