See How Delaware County Ranks among PA Counties for Hospital Bed Capacity

Delaware County is in the middle of the pack for Pennsylvania based on hospital bed capacity, according to a recently released ranking by Stacker.

Delaware County ranked No. 32 with 82% of inpatient beds occupied, seven percent of those by COVID-19 patients. This is 2.4% more availability than overall in Pennsylvania.

The county has 84% of ICU beds occupied, 13 percent of which are COVID-19 patients. This is 1.2% more than in the Keystone State overall.

Delaware County’s Medical Advisor Dr. Lisa O’Mahony. told the Daily Times that the COVID hospitalization data and ventilator data is trending flat.

The average daily number of COVID patients on ventilators in the past seven days has been 5.1 percent. up slightly from 4.7% in the previous seven days.

The number of hospital emergency room visits for COVID-like illnesses has stayed the same, around 1.4%.

O’Mahony said the death rate is way down, a combination of younger people in better health getting the virus and older residents being vaccinated. Treatments have also improved.

In Delaware County, 63.1% of residents are fully vaccinated, 9.2% higher then in Pennsylvania overall.

Nearby, Bucks County ranked the lowest for hospital bed capacity, at No. 43. Chester County was No. 36 and Montgomery at No. 26.
