People place their wagers at kiosks in the Parx Casino's sportsbook in Bensalem.

Chester County is set to receive its first sportsbook, as Parx Casino and Racing is bringing off-track betting and sports gambling to Malvern. The company expects to open the new venue before the end of the year, writes Kevin Shelly for Play Pennsylvania.

After receiving approval from the Pennsylvania Horse Racing Commission at the beginning of July, Parx Casino and Racing has decided to move its shuttered location from Oaks to Malvern.

The relocation will transform the standalone betting facility into a smaller operation located in the forthcoming Chickie’s & Pete’s at The Grove, a shopping center in East Whiteland Township.

The site still needs to receive liquor approval.

The company is projecting 30,000 visitors per year to the betting operation, according to Parx lawyer Mark Stewart. It will have a minimum of 14 employees.

“We’d like to open several of these,” said Joe Wilson, the COO of Parx. “This is what we see as the future. Nobody wants to walk into an empty bar. It’s the same way with an OTB.”
