A dramatic four-hour water rescue by Berwyn Fire Company saved the life of a man trapped in a car along Valley Creek, writes Pete Bannon for the Daily Times.

Radnor Fire Company assisted in the rescue.

During the onslaught of Hurricane Ida last Wednesday night, a person became trapped in their car as flood waters rose along Valley Creek near the Valley Forge National Historical Park Covered Bridge in Tredyffrin Township.

Because of conditions at the site, first responders could not use a boat or bring in a helicopter for the rescue.

Swift water rescue teams used a rope to get the person from the car and up several  hundred feet up Mt. Joy in a rescue basket.

The incident lasted 4 hours from start to finish.

 “I could not be prouder of the Berwyn group for their efforts at this incident and others during a hectic late afternoon and night,” said Berwyn Chief Eamon Brazunas.

Crews were busy rescuing people from cars and buildings from Ida’s wrath on the region.

Besides Randor, Phoenixville and Valley Forge Fire Companies assisted, along with Phonixville Driving-Rescue Unit, Paoli EMS & Fire Police, Malvern EMS, Valley Forge Park Rangers and CCDES Dispatchers and Call-Takers.
