Rose Tree Media School District has selected a location in Edgmont Township as the site for a new elementary school, reports the Daily Local News.

The new school will be near 1501 Middletown Road.

In September 2020, the school board unanimously approved construction of a new school on new land, with a scheduled opening date of Fall 2023.

The school is needed to address the district’s increasing student enrollment.  It’s projected that enrollment will increase by 20 percent over the next five years.

In the next three years, enrollment will have grown enough to fill another elementary school, according to district projections.

The proposed school joins seven other existing buildings in the district, including Penn Crest High School, Springton Lake Middle School and four other elementary schools.

The district’s Project Oversight Committee has been reviewing possible locations in Middletown and Edgmont over the past several months, reviewing 23 potential sites.

The school district is nearing the end of the new school’s Schematic Design Phase and will soon begin its design and construction phase for the school

The district is scheduled to break ground on the new facility in Spring 2022.
