St. Cyril of Alexandria Catholic School in East Lansdowne is moving into the former St.. Philomena Parish School building in Lansdowne, writes Peg DeGrassa for the Daily Times.

The announcement was made last week by Independence Mission Schools, which took over St. Cyril School from the Archdiocese in 2012.

The two school properties are less than a mile from each other.

The former St. Philomena site has more room, a separate gym and cafeteria, air-conditioned classrooms, and updated windows. New floors and lighting will be installed and students will each receive a Chromebook.

The school will change its name to Saints Cyril & Philomena Catholic School, encouraging families from both parishes to enroll.

“We are hoping, by moving the school to St. Philomena Parish, parishioners will have a new option to provide their children with a private Catholic education on the familiar grounds of their beloved church,” said Rev. Paul Castellani, pastor of St. Philomena Parish.

So far, 150 students are enrolled for the 2021-22 school year.

A charter school leasing space at St. Philomena has bought the St. Cyril buildings and will swap places with the incoming students.
