Philadelphia Union’s Jim Curtin Gets 2-Year Contract Extension

By

Philadelphia Union manager Jim Curtin now has a two-year extension on his contract, through the 2023 season, writes Jonathan Tannenwald for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Curtin, 41, has been managing the team since June 2014. He moved into the position on an interim basis after serving as assistant coach for the previous year and a half. He stopped being interim in 2014.

Curtin has also coached Union’s youth teams since the club’s first season in 2010.

The Union has made the playoffs four times and the U.S. Open Cup final three times under Curtin’s watch.

Last year was the team’s best regular-season record in MLS, earning the Union the Supporters’ Shield, its first trophy.

Curtin received a landslide vote from players, coaches, club executives and media naming him Coach of the Year.

“Jim has undoubtedly proved himself to be one of the best coaches in the league,” Union sporting director Ernst Tanner said in a statement. “He has led this team to new heights year after year … He is an intelligent leader who continues to strive for more, and we are delighted to extend his contract.”
