Havertown Singing Competition Gives Local Hidden Gems a Chance to be a Star

By

For those of you waiting to be discovered, there’s a new singing competition in Havertown next month, reports Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.com.

“The Star” is the creation of a local musician and music teacher.

“We are searching for a star,” says Danny Murphy, the director of The Star Vocal Competition.

Each week during the competition, contestants will pick a song to perform.

“They’ll be judged on vocal ability, stage presence, audience reaction, and just the way that they present themselves,” said Murphy.

Contestants will be eliminated until five remain. Cash prizes and performance opportunities will then be presented.

The hope is that hidden gems will come forward from the community.

“The Star” runsfour weeks in June at the Kelly Center in Havertown.

The contest is open to two groups: singers from ages 8 to 16, and singers that are 17 and up.

Submissions for consideration are due this Friday, May 21. Auditions are set for Sunday.

Local celebrity judges are also on tap.
