Employers Grade Hospitals on Safety; 1 in Delaware County, 1 Nearby, Earn an ‘A’
Leapfrog, an employer-driven hospital rating system on safety and best practices, has awarded top marks to one Delaware County hospital and a Montgomery County hospital nearby, writes Harold Brubaker for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
The latest rating awarded an A grade to Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, Lower Merion; and Riddle Hospital in Media.
Meanwhile, Mercy Catholic Medical Center – Mercy Fitzgerald Campus in Darby received a B rating.
Finally, Crozer-Chester Medical Center in Upland, Delaware County Memorial in Drexel Hill, Springfield Hospital, and Ridley Park Hospital all received a C rating.
No Delaware County or Philadelphia Region hospital received the bottom mark of an F.
Leapfrog’s grading system is compiled twice a year using Medicare data and other sources. It is designed to encourage hospitals to adopt best practices that reduce medical mistakes and adverse events such as in hospital infections.
The Leapfrog Group is a nonprofit founded two decades ago by major national employers to get better value for over $700 billion they spend each year on health care for employees and their family members by taking a more active role in the way services are provided.
