Riddle Memorial Hospital in Media made a list of America’s top 250 hospitals as complied by Healthgrades, writes Max Bennett for patch.com.

The health care information company identified 14 hospitals in Pennsylvania, including Riddle, that are in the top 250 in the nation.

Patients treated in these Pennsylvania hospitals have a 26 percent lower chance of dying then at another hospital, Healthgrades said.

Healthgrades evaluated hospital performance based on 32 procedures and conditions, including treatment of heart attacks, heart failure, pneumonia, respiratory failure, sepsis and stroke.

A hospital had to be successful in at least 21 of the procedures and conditions.

The organization collects data from the National Provider Registry, patient surveys, government data and data from providers and practices.

The rankings are different than the biannual hospital safety grades released by the Leapfrog Group, for which Riddle received a “C” rating.

“Sustaining a high level of care is challenging and requires a hospital-wide commitment and a ‘patient-first’ culture. We applaud these elite hospitals on being recognized as the best in the nation,” said Brad Bowman, the chief medical officer at Healthgrades, in a release.
