New COVID-19 Cases in Delaware County Continued to Climb Friday, Breaching 200 Cases

Five COVID-19-related deaths were reported in Delaware County for Friday, April 9, according to the Chester County Health Department.

As of Friday, the health department was reporting a total of 1,356 COVID-19-related deaths in Delaware County.

Of those, 825 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the latest statistics from the Chester County Health Department.

Deaths were reported from Middletown, Upper Darby, Yeadon, Springfield and Darby Township.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

The health department also reported there have been 205 new positive cases of COVID-19 reported for Friday, April 9. Total cases, as of April 9, are 43,317.

Prospect Park continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 688, affecting 10.59 percent of its 6,492 population.

Upper Darby has the most total cases, with 6,406 cases reported, or 7.72 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 921 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The health department was reporting a 89.25 percent recovery rate as of April 9.

The county has had 223,079 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 89.72 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Friday, April 9, are:

  • Under 10: 1,916 cases
  • 10 to 19: 4.860 cases
  • 20 to 29: 7,253 cases
  • 30 to 39: 6,346 cases
  • 40 to 49: 5,879 cases
  • 50 to 59: 6,688 cases
  • 60 to 69: 5,183 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,611 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,576 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, April 9, there were 5,048 new cases of COVID-19 statewide. Total cases now number 1,064,092.

The state is reporting 35 additional COVID-19 deaths for Friday, April 9. The statewide death toll is now 25,362.
