Jim Conlan appreciates the privacy of the pool house at the Newtown Square home where he and his family live, writes Terry Ackman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

It’s “separated from the house, so I may talk as loudly as I wish” Conlan said.

The pool house is his year-round work space where he can make early morning work-related calls.

Kelly Conlan discovered the house in 2014 with daughter Camilla Stapleton, now 19.

It seemed perfect—a smaller home easier to maintain, near family and a comfortable work commute.

“My daughter had obviously been watching a lot of HGTV because she said the house was beautiful and had an open floor plan,” Kelly recalled. “I remember thinking that was hilarious coming out of the mouth of a 12-year-old.”

Mom and daughter moved in that year.

They decorated it the way they wanted, very feminine.

But when Jim joined the family in 2016, and married Kelly in 2018, he needed his space, too.

Kelly remembered the pool she grew up with in California. They decided to build a pool and add the 450 square-foot stone pool house to give Jim more space year-round.
