Fourteen Additional COVID Deaths and 226 New Cases in Delaware County Since Tuesday

Fourteen COVID-19-related deaths were reported in Delaware County between Tuesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 18.  

Of those, 811 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the latest statistics from the Chester County Health Department.

The Chester County Health Department is reporting a total of 1,308 fatalities.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 46 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

2 from Marple

2 from Haverford

2 from Chester

1 from Media

1 from Springfield

1 from Ridley

1 from Lansdowne

1 from Darby Township

1 from Brookhaven

There were 226 new positive COVID-19 cases in Delaware County reported between Tuesday, March 16 and Thursday, March 18. Total cases are now 39,971.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 1,115, or 9.69 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 5,983 cases reported, or 7.21 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 864 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 212,588 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 91.38 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Thursday, March 18, are:

  • Under 10: 1,614 cases
  • 10 to 19: 4.268 cases
  • 20 to 29: 6,705 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 5,822 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 5,427 cases
  • 50 to 59: 6,228 cases
  • 60 to 69: 4,879 cases
  • 70 to 79: 2,506 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,518 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, March 18, there were 3,136 new cases of COVID-19 statewide.  Total cases now number 976,857.

The state is reporting 17 additional COVID-19 deaths for Thursday, March 18. The statewide death toll is now 24,706.
