A Philadelphia Magazine guide to savory pies, from chicken pot pie to British meat pies, included English Offerings in Media and Hill’s Quality Seafood, with shops in Newtown Square, Media and Glen Mills.

The list of piping hot pies, compiled by Sarah Maiellano, seems fitting  in these cold and snowy winter days and nights.

Hill’s Quality Seafood Markets has seafood pot pies, each one creamy and briny with shrimp, bay scallops, clams, white fish and red bliss potatoes.  The pies are purchased frozen.

Hill’s Quality Seafood has been around since 1975 when Bernie Grogan, still a senior at Widener University, opened his first Hill’s Quality Seafood Market in Media.

The business is named after Grogan’s cousins.  The original shop moved to its current location at Baltimore Ave. and Lemon Street in the early 1990s.

He has since expanded to Newtown Square, Glen Mills and Exton. The focus is on fresh seafood and oven-ready seafood classics.

English Offerings in Media is run by a British expat.  This takeout operation offers a meat pie that is slightly smoked, with slow cooked beef in gravy with extra gravy on the side, Welsh cheddar, onions and potatoes.
