Francesca Cabrini, the frail, but strong-willed Italian woman whose religious order, Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, founded Cabrini University in Radnor, is now the subject of a film, writes Eugene Zenyatta for philadelphiaweekly.com.

Mother Cabrini had an impact on generations of U.S. immigrants, focusing on education and health care.

“Cabrini” begins production this year and will be available for streaming by the holiday season 2021.

It is directed by Alejandro Monteverde, winner of a People’s Choice Award at the Toronto International Film Festival for his Mexican romance film, “Bella.”

A prime sponsor of the film is Philadelphia investor and entrepreneur Eustace Wolfington.

“St. Frances Xavier Cabrini has much to teach us at this time in history,” said Wolfington.

Mother Cabrini survived tuberculosis as a child back in the 1850s, only to be stricken with smallpox and lifelong bronchitis.

Even so, she went on to start 67 hospitals, orphanages and schools worldwide.

Her charitable endeavors of the time exceeded the Vanderbilts and the Rockefellers combined.

“Faced with forces of ill-will and hostility, this little woman with enormous strength and fortitude built a worldwide empire of hope. We believe the time is right to tell her story,” Wolfington said.
