Delaware County Joins in National Memorial to COVID Victims With Tribute This Evening

By

Delaware County is joining a national COVID-19 Memorial Jan. 19.

Delaware County Council will have a tribute beginning at 5:15 p.m.. The event will be streamed live on the County’s website and on county council’s Facebook page.

The ceremony serves as a time to remember those we have lost to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Members of the community are invited to watch live and participate by lighting a candle in their window or inside of their home.

Municipalities are invited to light up their government buildings and churches are invited to ring bells at 5:30p.m.

To date, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to the death of over 387,000 Americans.

Delaware County has lost 1,053 beloved Delaware County residents to the virus; family, friends, neighbors, coworkers and members of our community.

During this pandemic, many family members and friends were not able to say goodbye to their loved ones due to public health concerns or travel restrictions, causing even more pain during an already difficult time of grieving.

In the midst of this deadly pandemic, where so many are grieving the loss of a family member, friend, neighbor, or coworker, it’s important that we pause and reflect, and remember each person we have lost.

The hope is the memorial will serve as a collective healing for the community.
