Delaware County Approaches 1,000 COVID-19 Fatalities

The Chester County Health Department reported 29,227 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County for Monday, Jan. 4.

Total COVID-related deaths in the county now number 999. 

Of those, 685 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 941, or 8.2 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,496 cases reported, or 5.4 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 617 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 178,779 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 76.48 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Monday, Jan.4 are:

  • Under 10: 982 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,788 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,040 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,305 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,024 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,626 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,598 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,855 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,006 cases
