The onslaught of storms and excessive heat has more of us thinking about possible power outages this summer. Luckily, there’s a local woman over at PECO who’s on the job, writes Eri McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Nicole LeVine of Ridley Park has been PECO’s chief operating officer—the first woman to hold that position—for less than a year.

But she’s been with the company for 28 years.

On a typical day, you’ll find the 47-year-old attending a safety meeting with PECO employees or touring new construction at a gas plant.

She started as a University of Delaware intern. A full-time engineering position followed, then she became director of gas operations, vice president of electric operations, and now COO.

Her focus these days is on customer service, particularly during the May to October storm season.

“We’ve done a significant amount of work over the last several years to prepare for storms,” LeVine said, including automation to localize damage and outages.

In fact, last year, customers experienced the fewest power outages in PECO history.

As far as all this heat, LeVine was confident PECO could handle the heavier load.
