If you test positive for COVID-19 outside of the United States, don’t expect to fly to Philadelphia, writes Layla A. Jones for billypenn.com.

Philadelphia International Airport spokesperson Florence Brown said you now must prove you are COVID-19 free before you board a plane for Philadelphia.

PHL Airport is the second largest international hub for American Airlines

Starting Jan. 26, the airline will participate in a testing program of its passengers.

International travel has increased a whopping 400 percent since June, triggering the new rule.

Anyone age 2 or older must:

  • Provide documentation for a negative coronavirus test no more than three days before the flight, or
  • Provide proof of recovery from COVID and a letter clearing travel from a medical doctor or public health official

Airline staff must then verify the negative test and clearance.

The CDC order came a month after a man with COVID died mid-flight from Orlando to Los Angeles.

“This is an all of society approach to battle a pandemic threat like this virus poses,” said CDC Global Migration and Quarantine Director Marty Cetron. “But together, and with commitment and resolve, we can get there.”
