American Airlines is offering $129 COVID-19 test kits to passengers flying to destinations out of Philadelphia International Airport that have COVID-19 restrictions, writes Lauren Ohnesorge for Philadelphia Business Journal.

American is the airport’s largest airline.

 Those include:

• Alaska

• Connecticut

• Washington, D.C.

• Chicago

• Hawaii

• Maine

• Maryland

• Massachusetts

• New Hampshire

• New York

• North Carolina

• Puerto Rico

• Rhode Island

• Vermont

The move could boost consumer confidence in the airline, noted Michael Walden, an economist at North Carolina State.

“Add this to the rollout of the vaccines, and I think the airlines can see daylight ahead. But – to continue the metaphor – it will still be a while before total sunshine.”

The airlines have been emphasizing the safety measures in place.

At the Bernstein 2020 Operational Decisions Conference, American Chief Revenue Officer Vasu Raja pointed to studies that said it was “extremely safe to fly in the era of Covid-19.”

Delta CEO Ed Bastian reported in October there were only 44 documented cases of suspected COVID transmission on an aircraft industry-wide, and all in the early months before masks and revised safety protocols.
