340 New Positive COVID-19 Cases Listed for Friday in Delaware County, 1 Death

One COVID-19 death was reported in Delaware County on Friday, Jan. 8, from Marple, according to the Chester County Health Department.

That brings the county’s total number of COVID fatalities to 1,023.  Of those, 693 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes.

The health department also reported 340 new positive cases of COVID-19 for Friday, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 30,434.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 954, or 8.29 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,645 cases reported, or 5.6 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 665 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 181,380 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 77.63 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Friday, Jan.8 are:

  • Under 10: 1,044 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,935 cases
  • 20 to 29: 5,248 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 4,483 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 4,160 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,803 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,739 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,938 cases
  • 80 and over: 2,081 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Jan.8 that there were 9,778 additional cases of COVID-19 reported statewide, with total cases at 702,865.

There were 215 deaths reported, for a total of 17,394.
