Under Equus Capital Partner Guidance, Reading Outlet Gives Way to Thriving Corporate Campus

By

Even as the VF Outlet Center in West Reading prepares to close, the property where it sits, the Knitting Mills business park, is being reborn.

Equus Capital Partners in Newtown Square is turning the early 20th century manufacturing hub into a modern, mixed use community.

VF Outlet owner Kontour Brands, Inc. announced it was closing the 50-year-old store by Dec. 24.

Meanwhile, Equus Partners, a development and investment company, has been turning the 53-acre property into a corporate campus, with 700,000 square feet of modern classrooms, offices, retail, restaurants and laboratory space.

It’s mission is to provide a thriving economic center in Berks County while preserving the architecture and history of the business park.

Textile Machine Works opened at the property in 1892, becoming the world’s largest producer of hosiery products, as a company town grew up around it.

Vanity Fair bought the property in the 1960s, creating the first major shopping outlet center in the country.

Equus Capital Partners acquired the property in 2016 and started work on creating a business campus.

“With this project, Equus is building community, creating an economic catalyst for the economic development of Greater Reading and positioning the Knitting Mills to thrive for the next 100 years and beyond,” states a Equus Partners video describing the project.
