Number of New COVID-19 Cases Drops Below 200 on Monday in Delaware County

The Chester County Health Department reported Monday, Dec. 21, that three more Delaware County residents have died from complications of COVID-19.

The fatalities were reported from Chester, Bethel and Marcus Hook.

Total fatalities now number 928.

Of those, 659 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

The health department also reported that the total number of positive COVID cases for the county now number 26,183. On Sunday, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported 26,061 total cases in Delaware County.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 895, or 7.8 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,096 cases reported, or 4.9 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 576 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 172,245 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 70.62 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Friday, Dec. 21 are:

  • Under 10: 845 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,533 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,624 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,861 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,614 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,105 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,165cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,631 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,803 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 21, that there were 7,887 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 563,589.

There were 57 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Monday, Dec. 21, reported at 13,981.
