Some Delaware County small business owners struggling to survive in the COVID-19 pandemic are asking the state to move the southeast region into the yellow phase of the reopening plan, reports Jeff Cole for fox29.com.

Robert Napoletano owns Napoletano Brothers, an Italian food specialty market in Springfield. The business has been in his family for three generations.

“I feel like small businesses need a chance to survive. There are countless small businesses going out of business or going to be because of this, so give us a chance to get back

to work,” he told FOX 29.

He believes Delco is ready to enter the “yellow phase” with 37 other counties.

While some counties have threatened to reopen in defiance of Gov. Wolf’s pandemic directives, Delaware County Councilman Brian Zidek said that wouldn’t happen in Delaware County.

“We need to make sure we get to a place where we can sustain it. We don’t want to go back only to find we have a surge of folks get sick,” he explained.

Pennsylvania Health Secretary Rachel Levine said there are discussions taking place about a tailored plan to open the southeastern Pennsylvania communities.
