No Additional COVID Deaths Reported in Delaware County Even as Cases Climb

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Chester County Health Department reported 22,440 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County.

No additional COVID-19-related deaths were reported, with the death toll remaining at 873 for the county.

Of those, 643 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 40 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 819, or 7.13 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 3,493 cases reported, or 4.2 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 496 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 162,478 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 66.69 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Tuesday, Dec. 8 are:

  • Under 10: 677 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,141 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,028 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,312 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,069 cases
  • 50 to 59: 3,510 cases
  • 60 to 69: 2,661 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,414 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,627

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 8, that there were 10,170 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 436,614.

There were 169 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Tuesday, Dec. 8 reported at 11,542.
