New Positive Cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County Hovering in Mid-200s Tuesday

The Chester County Health Department reported Tuesday, Dec. 22, that there were 26,426 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County.

On Monday, the health department reported 26,183 cases.

One death in the county was reported from Newtown Township, with total fatalities now listed at 929.  

Of those, 659 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 899, or 7.8 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,134 cases reported, or 4.98 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 582 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 172,738 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 70.58 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Tuesday, Dec. 22 are:

  • Under 10: 854 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,545 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,661 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,895 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,644 cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,140 cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,200 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,657 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,828 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 21, that there were 7,962 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 571,51.

There were 231 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Tuesday, Dec. 22, reported at 14,212.
