New Positive Cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County Approaching 28,000; Fatalities Above 950

The Chester County Health Department reported Monday, Dec. 28, that there were 27,745 positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County.

Total deaths now number 956.

Of those, 671 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 909, or 7.92 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 4,209 cases reported, or 5.07 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 596 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 175,860 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 72.62 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Monday, Dec. 28 are:

  • Under 10: 885 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,612 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,735 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,970 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,711cases
  • 50 to 59: 4,226cases
  • 60 to 69: 3,269 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,691 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,874 cases

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 28, that there were 3,779 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 613,804.

There were 76 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Monday, Dec. 28, reported at15,086.
