Delaware County’s Reported Positive COVID-19 Case Loads for Tuesday Rises to 278

The number of new positive COVID cases reported Tuesday in Delaware County jumped to 278, according to the Chester County Health Department.

On Monday, the Chester County Health Department reported 24,270 positive cases in the county. On Tuesday, that number was 24,518.

One additional COVID death was reported Tuesday from Haverford Township with total fatalities county-wide now at 896.

Of those, 652 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 43 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 850, or 7.4 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 3,860 cases reported, or 4.65 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 535 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 167,901 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 68.3 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups, as reported Tuesday, Dec. 15 are:

  • Under 10: 774 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,352 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,390 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,604 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,371 cases
  • 50 to 59: 3,812 cases
  • 60 to 69: 2,948 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,545 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,720

Pennsylvania data

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 15, that there were 9,566 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at over half a million, at 509,320.

There were 270 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Tuesday, Dec. 15, reported at 12,890.
