Delaware County Adds 15 COVID Deaths on Dec. 9, for a Total of 888

The Chester County Health Department is reporting 254 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Delaware County for Wednesday, Dec. 9, with a new total of 22,694 positive cases.

On Tuesday, Dec. 8, it reported 22,440 positive cases.

The health department also added 15 COVID-19-related deaths in its Dec. 9 report, for a new total of 888.

Fatalities were reported from Marple, Haverford, Upper Darby, Concord, Newtown, Bethel, Upper Providence, Darby Township, with 2 from Yeadon, Chester, Brookhaven,

Of those, 645 were in long-term care facilities and personal care homes, according to the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have been reported in 40 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. Total cases are 825, or 7.19 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases, with 3,547 cases reported, or 4.27 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 498 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 162,478 people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 66.69 percent recovery rate.

  • Under 10: 691 cases
  • 10 to 19: 2,174 cases
  • 20 to 29: 4,079 cases  
  • 30 to 39: 3,346 cases  
  • 40 to 49: 3,100 cases
  • 50 to 59: 3,549 cases
  • 60 to 69: 2,696 cases
  • 70 to 79: 1,427 cases
  • 80 and over: 1,631

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Dec. 9, that there were 8,703 new cases of COVID-19 statewide, with the total number of cases now at 445,317.

There were 220 new COVID-19 deaths reported statewide, with total deaths for Wednesday, Dec. 9 reported at 11,762.
