Pennsylvania is easing COVID-19 restrictions on how many people can gather at indoor and outdoor events, writes Greg Pickel for pennlive.com.

Pa. Gov. Tom Wolf and Health Department Secretary Dr. Rachel Levine will now base crowd limits on the maximum capacity of a venue.

Up to now, only 25 people were permitted to gather indoors and up to 250 outside.

Under the new restrictions, for indoor, a facility for 2,000 people can have 20 percent of capacity; up to 10,000, 15 percent; above 10,000, 10 percent, capping at 3,750.

For outdoors, an area for 2,000 people can have 25 percent of capacity; up to 10,000, 20 percent; above 10,000, 15 percent up to 7,500.

The new orders go into effect Oct. 9 and will allow more people to attend athletic events, meetings, concerts and more.

Mask wearing, social distancing, and other mitigation orders from the state still apply.

“We know everyone has sacrificed in many ways and today’s announcement reflects a gradual adjustment to our lives as we learn how we can do things safely until we have a cure, or an effective vaccine is widely available,” Wolf stated in a release.
