Villanova University students who study abroad in Italy are being brought home to the United States as a precaution against the spread of the coronavirus in northern Italy, reports Kimberly Davis for Philadelphia.cbslocal.com.

University officials made the announcement Wednesday.  Thirty two students are affected.

Officials have not yet said if the students will be quarantined upon their return.

A Villanova spokesperson said the university will be flying back from Urbino, Milan, Rome and Florence, Italy.

A campus-wide email went out to students notifying them of the decision.

Villanova students say they are remaining calm, but cautious.

“All the hype shouldn’t be so crazy,” Villanova senior Julia Wallace said. “We’re just being careful to make sure that people are safe.”

Students say they trust that Villanova is making the right decision.

“I’m sure that they’ll take all the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of the student body,” sophomore Wesley Erickson said.

To date, Italy is the nation with the highest caseload outside of Asia, with at least 325 cases and at least 10 deaths reported Wednesday.

An emergency preparedness team at Villanova University is closely monitoring the situation with the students.
