Main Line Health has named Barbara Wadsworth its Chief Operating Officer. She is the health system’s first Chief Operating Officer.

Wadsworth has been a member of the Main Line Health team since 2012, when she joined as Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer. She will continue to serve in the role while taking on additional responsibilities as COO.

In her newly expanded role, Wadsworth will provide leadership and operational oversight for hospital and ambulatory operations across Main Line Health and will collaborate with hospital and medical staff leadership to ensure a high standard of STEEEP (Safe, Timely, Effective, Efficient, Equitable, and Patient-Centered) care in all settings, promote clinician and patient satisfaction, and provide oversight for cost-effective and integrated clinical programs.

Most recently, Barbara has co-led our COVID response, and her steadfast leadership and commitment to safety has been a beacon during this challenging time. We’re very excited to extend this opportunity to Barbara, and I look forward to all we will accomplish as she takes on an even greater role at Main Line Health.”

Wadsworth has more than 35 years of experience as a nurse leader and healthcare executive. Before joining Main Line Health, she was a member of the nursing leadership team at Abington Memorial Hospital, ultimately assuming her role as Chief Nursing Officer from 2006-2012. Prior to her positions at Abington, Wadsworth worked as director of nursing at Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia and as a nursing supervisor/critical care staff nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital in Quakertown.

Wadsworth has a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Russell Sage College in Troy, N.Y., a master’s degree in Nursing Administration from Old Dominion University, and a master’s degree in Business Administration from La Salle University. In 2014, she earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Vanderbilt University.

Additionally, Wadsworth holds several professional nursing and healthcare certifications. She is certified as a Nurse Executive, Advanced; a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing; and a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives. She is a 2009 Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellow, was inducted as a Fellow into the National Academies of Practice in March 2017, and completed the national Baldrige Executive Fellowship. She is a member of the American Nurses Association, PA State Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau, and American Organization of Nurse Leaders.
