Don’t be fooled, or disturbed, by the name. Satanic Delco just wants to promote “a science first viewpoint” and be recognized as eternal rebels, says its founder, Ridley Township resident Joseph Rose.

The group was recently seen at the 69th Street  Transportation Center in Upper Darby distributing food, water and hygiene products to the homeless, writes Stephanie Farr for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

It was part of their “To Hell with Homelessness” campaign.

Rose, 42, founded the 300-member Satanic Delco in February. He doesn’t believe in hell, heaven or Satan.

The members do believe in reason, responsibility, compassion, justice, freedom, science and autonomy.

So why name themselves after a supernatural figure they don’t believe in?

It’s a conversation starter, a chance for people to flex their critical thinking skills.

“It’s encouraging people to do what we believe they should do — ask critical questions — and it invites critical thinking,” he said.

It’s all about challenging the status quo and people’s perceptions.

Rose was an outsider himself at Ridley High School in the 1990s, with long hair, and heavy metal T-shirts.

Today, he owns a stationary store, hosts a podcast called The Grunge and has a 13-year-old son.
