State Sen. Tom Killion (R-9)  is traversing a different Delaware County on the campaign trail than the one he walked in 2016, writes Andrew Seidman for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The 9th District was an area Donald Trump easily won in 2016, a solid Republican area.

This time, there were more Democrats around and fewer Trump supporters.

The Philadelphia suburbs are trending Democrat, and anti-Trump.

It will be up to these same suburban voters whether they want to just get rid of Trump or replace the party that he now heads.

“In the suburbs, the president frankly isn’t popular,” Killion said. “That has hurt Republican candidates down ballot.

“But we also here, in this district, have a history of ticket-splitting. It happened with [Democratic former Gov. Ed] Rendell. It happened with Trump last time. I don’t expect anything different in November.”

The 9th District is one of the toughest for the GOP in Pennsylvania. Killion is seeking a second term after  narrowly winning a first term in 2016.

It’s a top target for Democrats in their campaign to take over the state Senate.

Right now, it’s evenly split between Democrats and Republicans.
