Upper Darby’s entire sanitation division is undergoing quarantine for two weeks starting Aug. 6 through Aug. 21 after an outbreak of coronavirus was reported.

Upper Darby Mayor Barbarann Keffer sent a text alert Aug. 6, with an update Aug. 9 announcing the outbreak.

The decision to quarantine the crews was made after discussions with TWU Local 234, representing the sanitation workers.

Upper Darby cancelled trash collection for Friday, Aug. 7.

Trash collection resumed today. A private company using commercial drivres and laborers will pick up trash during the quarantine.

Township trash trucks have been sanitized and will be used for the pickup.

Trash collection will be once a week using the non-summer schedule.

Recycling collection has also been suspended for two weeks but is expected to resume the week of Aug. 24.

The mayor urged residents to be be “patient and compassionate as we all do our best to manage these difficult circumstances.”
