79 New Cases of COVID-19 Reported Monday for Delaware County, 9,770 Cases Total

There were 79 additional cases of COVID-19 reported in Delaware County for Monday, Aug. 17, by the Chester County Health Department, bringing the total number of cases to 9,770.

One COVID-19-related death has been reported since statistics were last available on Friday, Aug. 14, bringing the total number of deaths in the county to 759.

Of those, 597 were in long term care facilities and personal care homes, according to data from the Chester County Health Department.

COVID-19 fatalities have now been reported in 39 of the county’s 49 municipalities.

Yeadon Borough continues to have the highest percentage of population being affected by the virus. It has 496 cases, affecting 4.32 percent of its 11,471 population.

Upper Darby has the most cases reported, at 1,548, affecting 1.87 percent of Upper Darby’s 82,993 population.

There are 311 cases still under investigation, to which no municipality has yet been assigned.

The county has had 75,083  people test negative for the virus. The health department is reporting a 75.9 percent recovery rate.

Cases broken down by age groups as of Aug. 14 are:

  • Under 10: 6 cases
  • 10 to 19: 578 cases (up 31)
  • 20 to 29: 1,600 cases (up 100)
  • 30 to 39: 1,400 cases (up 100 cases)
  • 40 to 49: 1,300 cases
  • 50 to 59: 1,500 cases
  • 60 to 69: 1,300 cases (up 100 cases)
  • 70 to 79: 781 cases (up 8)
  • 80 and over: 1,300 cases (up 100)

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed as of noon, Aug. 17, that there were 384 new cases of COVID-19 across the state since Friday, Aug. 14, bringing the statewide total to 124,844.

No new COVID-19 related deaths were reported, with the total remaining at 7,468..
