State Sen. Anthony H. Williams (D-8) has tested positive for the coronavirus, the second Pennsylvania legislator to contract COVID-19, writes Angela Couloumbis of Spotlight PA for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Sen. Williams represents Philadelphia as well as Collingdale, Colwyn, Darby, Darby Township, Folcroft, Lansdowne, Norwood, Sharon Hill and Yeadon.

Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa (D-Allegheny) and Sen. Vincent Hughes (D-Philadelphia) were with Williams at a June 30 news conference. They are getting tested. They all wore masks.

Costa is self-quarantining awaiting test results.

Majority Leader Jake Corman (R., Centre) skipped a Senate voting session Tuesday because he was in contact with Williams in the last 14 days. He is self-quarantining and not exhibiting symptoms.

Williams said he is following recommended health guidelines. He has notified the Senate Democratic leadership and those he came in contact with “so they can take the necessary steps to evaluate if they are running any risk.”

Williams is closing his offices for two weeks “out of an abundance of caution.”

The Senator began experiencing symptoms July 9, was tested Friday, and received results Tuesday.

Staff recently exposed to the Senator are working from home. Contact tracing will be expanded if any test positive.
